From Behind

From behind I see you. You don’t see me slowly trying not to pass you.

I fear you might steal from me.

Again.

I fear you might ask for money.

Again.

I fear you might yell at me.

Again.

I’m not like them; but yet I am connected.

Sister.

I see you with your hospital bracelet too big, dangling off of your wrist holding on like a thread; your boyfriend holding your clear personal belongings bag.

Chivalry isn’t dead after all.

Sister.

Strung-out, skin and bones, rushing mad adrenaline trying to get to where she’s going…

But where are you going?

Sister.

My heart starts to pump.

Feels like blood pushing itself up into my throat.

Where is she rushing to?

Is it for her next fix?

Are you tired?

Sister.

Do you want to close your eyes and wish the world away?

Dream now.

To dream is to escape; to wake is to be in reality.

What’s in between?

Where are you?

Sister.
